If you run an e-commerce site, you’re always looking for ways to get website visitors to hit that “purchase” button. Recently on Duo’s Sip, Create, Repeat Podcast, the team shared their favorite ways to help increase conversion rates.
What is an online store’s conversion rate?
A conversion rate is the percentage of users who take an action. In an online store, the conversion rate is related to sales; so in this case, it’s a percentage of the people that come to your site and check out. An average online store conversion rate 1 – 2%. Anything above that is considered good. Anything below that: you could use a bit more work.
Ways to Increase Your Online Store’s Conversion Rate
If you use Shopify to host your online store, you don’t need to worry because there’s nothing you can do from a hosting perspective. That’s the beauty of Shopify – it’s a complete package.
However, if you use another option like WooCommerce to run your online store, then you need to select a reliable hosting provider. For WordPress websites, we recommend WPEngine. They tend to not have a lot of downtime, plus give incredibly fast speeds and a lot of perks.
Give Your Audience Offers
Another way to increase your conversion rate is to give your audience enticing offers. Some examples:
- A pop up saying, “sign up for our email list and receive 10% off”
- A promotion of a percentage off a certain product via email campaigns
- Planning for sales during various holidays, like “it’s Labor Day Weekend, so enjoy 20% percentage off the entire site”
Good Product Photography
The importance of having good product photography cannot be understated. Having great photos of your products makes people want to purchase something.
Taking photos doesn’t have to be overly complicated. If you have an iPhone 8 or later, then you have an amazing camera at your disposal at all times. Setting up a simple background such as a white poster board near a window providing natural light goes a long way.
Also, make sure all of the product photos on your site are consistent. If you upload a photo that is square, then commit to posting square photos across your site. What you don’t want is a mixture of all sorts of different sizes.
Keeping up with that visual consistency on your online store is easier than ever thanks to the numerous online tools you could use to edit different photos files. In fact, iPhones now allow you to adjust the crop and scale right on your phone, so you can even do it right on your mobile device as well. If you don’t have the ability to make those graphic edits, you can hop on Fiverr or Upwork to find a designer. It would be a worthwhile investment yet pretty minimal to your bottom line.
